Obituary for Henrica "Rica" Maguire (Rombout)

Peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Brantford General Hospital on Monday June 13, 2022. Rica (nee Rombout), of Brantford, in her 70th year. Beloved Wife of David for 47 years. Loving Mom of Ryan (Christal) and Brent (Katherine). Cherished Grandma of Connor and Eva-Lyn. Dear sister of John, Mary, Theo, and Martin. Predeceased by her parents Martin & Henrica Rombout, sister Dienie and brothers Pete and Bart. Rica will be sadly missed by her many extended family & friends.

A tribute to Rica/Mom from her Family:

Mom immigrated from The Netherlands in 1960 with her Parents, Sisters and Brothers, arriving by boat to Canada and resided in several towns in Brant and Haldimand Norfolk, helping with the family tobacco farm and learning English in school.

In grade one she met David and reacquainted several years later in Church, falling in love and marrying. They settled in Brantford and raised their beautiful sons Ryan and Brent while she worked at home at Rica’s Hairstyling. Mom and Dad developed many special and lifelong friendships over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at gatherings, during the holidays and at their trailer in Turkey Point.

Mom graciously volunteered countless hours at the Brantford General Hospital with the Gift Shop. She was a valued member of the Brant Heritage Quilters Guild's Outreach Committee, donating the BHQG's work throughout the Brantford community as well as coordinating Quiltique for the Quilt Expo. Rica was also an active member of the Paris Quilting Bees.

She was a beautiful, devoted and talented quilter and sewer, always in her sewing room. She won several prizes for her work at the Paris Fair. Her quilts and work are lovingly displayed at home and to all those she so generously gave them to. Every stitch was sewn with love to those she created for. Mom always enjoyed sharing her talents with anyone and never hesitated to support and give to others.

Moms proudest achievement was her Family. Some of her happiest moments were at the dining table, where she served her incredible food and baked goods. She was a very giving, loving and kind Wife, Mother and Mother-in-Law and was especially proud to be a Grandmother to Connor and Eva-Lyn, whom she so fondly always talked about and cherished her time with.

Mom was such a bright presence to all of us and gave so much life and love to everyone she knew. She will be truly missed.

There will never be another like you, Mom.

Love, Your Family
