Obituary for George Thomas Yurcich

George Yurcich, of Scotland, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Lifecare, Brantford on Saturday, April 8, 2023. George was in his 93rd year, but if you asked him he’d tell you he was 130 years old. Beloved husband of the late Gail Yurcich (2023). Loving Dad of Susan (John) Nadwodny, Cathie Yurcich-Beda, Paul (Catherine), and Greg. Cherished Papa of Jennifer (Fred), Meaghan (Jay), Taylor, John-Paul, Kristen (Mackenzie), Jordyn, Makenzie, Parker, and “Old-Papa” of Emery, Quentin, Kiera, and Conor. Dear brother-in-law of Pat Strohack and Joan Sims. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by 3 brothers, 3 sisters, his favorite dog Bear and his great friend Leonard “Uncle Len” McKeough.

Born and raised in Welland, George apprenticed as a bricklayer in his youth. He travelled about having adventures before making Scotland his forever home. George worked as a teacher for 35 years and was an innate educator and lifelong learner, curious about the world around him until the very end. He strongly encouraged the importance of education with his students, his own children and grandchildren, and the children in his community.

George will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, generosity, goofy sense of humor and for being a big kid at heart. He made pretty epic pancakes and pretty awful wine. He was never late for dinner.

Family and friends will be received at the Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King Street, Burford, Ontario on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 11–1 pm. A Celebration of George’s Life will follow at 1:00 pm. As expressions of sympathy, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Brantford Food Bank. Keith Ovington 519-449-1112 www.keithovington.ca
