Marilyn,
To your Mother and Family, on behalf of the Senior Elected Officers, Branch members and Staff of The Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command, please accept our sincere condolences.
The passing of our Comrade Derek has left a void in the lives of many. Comrade Derek, a dedicated Legionnaire, was a dear Friend and mentor to many, we didn't visit often, but every moment was enjoyed and will be cherished, as he lives in our hearts and minds forever.
We Will Remember Him!
God Bless, Sharon McKeown, Provincial President

Hello folks, I am one of Ken Skelton's children. His mother was Ellen Maude Houghton. I remember Derek and family visiting Pemaquid lake, Maine where we rented a camp when I was 5. I have some old photos of my Dad's visit to you folks before he and my Mom, Helen had any of us 5 kids. I even used "Houghton" as my pen name when I published a book about domestic violence: www.bewareofthedogbook.com I was proud to read of Derek's accomplishments. You have my deepest sympathy for your loss of a truly wonderful man.

Our deepest condolences to Verna, Marilyn and all the family from the family in Maine. Derek was an exceptional man and a living book of family history. He was always there to tell a good story and make you smile with his warmth and humor. He will be remembered as a family man, for his service to his country and to humanity during WWII and beyond.
I remember a visit we paid to Derek and Verna, Marilyn and the family a few years ago in Brantford when he showed us the work he had done with Canadian Military Heritage Museum and War Monument. Although he was in his 90s at the time, he took us everywhere: family graves, the Lodge, museums and everywhere we went people knew him and obviously loved him. He had a very long, happy and fulfilling life, we know, but even so, he will be missed very deeply.
