Obituary for William Andrew "Bill" Schandl

William Andrew "Bill" Schandl
Surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Brantford General Hospital in his 72nd year. Born May 12, 1946. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Son of the late Andrew and Ellen Schandl (nee Turner). He leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years Theresa (Terry), his step-sons, Dave (Kath) Lapierre and James Lapierre, his cherished grandchildren Bryer and Evangeline. He is also survived by his brothers Fred and Tom of Brantford. Also survived by his cousins Evelyn and Dorothy in Michigan USA. Will be dearly missed by his brother\sister in laws Dan (Doreen) Doucette, Steve (Julie 2012) Doucette, Keith (Heather) Doucette, Mark (Suzanne) Doucette, Darren (Donna) Doucette. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Bill was a transport truck driver for 45 years. He started his career at CP, then moved on to Cathcart, next worked with Day and Ross, then finished his career at Multi Freight Express out of St. Catharines where he retired in 2011. He loved driving for these companies and especially enjoyed working with the customers and his fellow trucker friends. His gift of gab was a well known trademark in his circles.
A special place in his heart was reserved for his love of animals, be it with pets, or the local wild life that benefited from his kindness in his own backyard. He enjoyed the thrill of playing lotteries as a hobby and he could occasionally be seen scratching tickets with a smile.
Bill enjoyed his many vacations with his wife and friends to a very special place, the Dominican Republic. He loved the people that shared the island and resort life. Many of the staff loved their friend “Papa” and would do anything for him.
Special thanks to the paramedics, doctors and nurses on the 8th floor of Brantford General Hospital. Their gentle kindness was greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.
Family and friends will be received at Keith Ovington Funeral Home 134 King St. Burford on Saturday February 17, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Bill's life to be held in the chapel at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke or if preferred any charity of choice would be appreciated. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
